1974
Freo Machinery is established.
First BHB Wobbly Tractor Crane purchased.
1978
The business expands with the launch of a Concrete Sawing & Drilling division.
1982
Freo Group enters the crane hire sector, marking a major step in the company’s evolution.
First road crane purchased – 8t converted to a 10t.
1996
2000
A significant fleet investment sees 30 cranes acquired from Japan.
2001
Freo Group opens its first regional branch in Karratha, strengthening its presence in the North West of Western Australia.
2003
2006
Expansion into Queensland through the acquisition of Millers Cranes & Transport.
2007
Purchase of our first Liebherr 500t All-Terrain crane.
2008
The business rebrands as Freo Group Limited and expands its transport and logistics capability through the acquisitions of Nebo Cranes and Oversize Transport Pty Ltd.
Wins the first logistics and warehousing services contract with Woodside at the Pluto Project.
2009
Freo Group places a $20 million crane order from the United States to support continued growth and project demand.
2010
Acquires first 750t Crawler Crane.
Company relocates to a new and larger head office in Henderson.
Awarded five-year crane services contract from BHP Iron Ore Operations.
The Quarantine & Cleaning division is established, broadening Freo’s integrated service offering.
2011
Wins Chevron Wheatstone LNG contract for supply chain and logistics support for ongoing cranes for the construction phase.
2012
Acquired by Marmon Cranes Services, Inc a Berkshire Hathaway company paving the way for expansion and access to ‘World Best Practices’.
2013
Establishment of the Hunter Valley branch (Muswellbrook) to support the award of the Glencore Coal Maintenance Contract.
2014
Awarded two-year services contract (with yearly extension) for BMA Queensland Coal Operations.
2016
Acquisition of United Crane Hire (UCH), strategic expansion into the South West-Region of Western Australia.
2018
Acquisition of WGC Crane Hire. (WGC), paving the way for further growth into the East Coast-Market.
Freo Group is awarded its first wind farm project at Murra Warra in Victoria.
2019
Accreditation to ISO 45001 & roll-out of IVMS.
Freo launches its Five-Year Social Responsibility Plan, reinforcing its long-term commitment to community and sustainability.
2020
Rollout of DoneSafe, Marmon Workday, Fleet Cost & Care.
2021
Accreditation to ISO 14001.
2022
FAST Training Program established.
2023
Awarded 10-year extension to contract for BHP Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) Operations. New five-year service contract signed for BMA Queensland Coal Operations.
2024
Freo Group celebrates 50 years of industry leadership and operational excellence.
2025
Appointed a new Executive Leadership Team, including industry leader Brian Adams as President, strengthening Freo Group’s strategic direction, operational excellence, and long-term growth ambitions.
Continued to strengthen Freo Group’s position in Australia’s renewable energy sector, securing major crane and lifting contracts for the Uungula Wind Farm (NSW) and Boulder Creek Wind Farm (QLD), supporting the nation’s transition to sustainable energy infrastructure.
