Freo Group has been engaged under a long-term Master Hire Agreement to supply and support a fleet of specialised mobile equipment for Santos’ offshore and onshore operations at the Varanus Island Hub, one of Western Australia’s most significant domestic gas production facilities. The scope covers the provision of rough terrain cranes, pick and carry cranes, telehandlers and forklifts, together with the skilled personnel and support services required to maintain fleet readiness across ongoing operational, maintenance and shutdown activities. Freo Group is responsible for the full lifecycle management of the hired fleet, including mobilisation, maintenance, inspection and compliance, ensuring Santos has reliable access to fit-for-purpose equipment at all times.
Operating in a remote and demanding offshore and onshore environment presents ongoing challenges around equipment availability, logistical coordination and compliance with stringent oil and gas safety requirements. Maintaining consistent fleet readiness in a location where unplanned downtime can have significant consequences for production and safety requires proactive maintenance regimes, thorough inspection protocols and rapid response capability. Freo Group meets these demands by drawing on its established Pilbara operations and regionally based workforce, enabling faster mobilisation, local knowledge and stronger continuity of service. This regional presence also supports Freo Group’s commitment to local employment and workforce development within Western Australia, reinforcing the long-term partnership with Santos.
