Freo Group has been engaged to provide wet hire crane and lifting solutions across the Stations, Systems, Trains, Operations and Maintenance (SSTOM) contract for the Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport project, delivered by the Parklife Metro consortium. The scope encompasses the supply and operation of a diverse fleet of mobile and specialised cranes, together with engineered rigging solutions, to support construction activities across multiple locations along the metro alignment. Freo Group is responsible for the full lifecycle management of its crane fleet on site, from mobilisation and installation through to maintenance and demobilisation, ensuring lifting services are delivered safely and in accordance with the project’s strict rail safety and operational requirements.
Operating within an active rail infrastructure construction environment presented significant compliance and coordination challenges, requiring all personnel, equipment and lifting operations to meet stringent rail safety standards and project-specific protocols. Managing crane deployment across multiple concurrent work fronts, each with varying lift requirements and access constraints, demanded careful fleet planning and responsive logistics to maintain programme continuity. Freo Group addressed these demands by deploying a versatile mix of crane types suited to the varied site conditions and lift profiles encountered across the project, supported by a team of experienced operators and riggers holding the full complement of required rail and project inductions, ensuring seamless integration with the broader construction programme.
