Scope

Freo Group has been engaged to deliver end-to-end heavy lifting, craneage and logistics solutions for the Uungula Wind Farm, located approximately 14 kilometres east of Wellington in regional New South Wales. The scope encompasses the full turbine installation program across all 69 GE Vernova generators, from oversized component transport and pre-assembly through to precision final erection at heights exceeding 148 metres. Freo Group is responsible for supplying and operating all specialised heavy lift equipment, managing site logistics, and providing the full complement of qualified personnel required to safely and efficiently execute the works.

Challenges & Solutions

The Uungula Wind Farm presented a number of logistical and operational challenges inherent to large-scale wind farm construction in a regional setting. Transporting oversized components, including long-form turbine blades, heavy nacelles and multi-section towers, across regional road networks required detailed route planning, permits and close coordination with local authorities to ensure safe and timely delivery to site. The precision demands of lifting and installing components at hub heights of 148 metres, combined with the deployment of 750-tonne class crawler cranes, necessitated rigorous lift planning, engineering sign-off and strict adherence to safe work procedures. Freo Group addressed these challenges by drawing on its specialist wind energy expertise, deploying experienced site supervision teams, and applying proven project management systems developed across its growing renewable energy portfolio.
